Low profile? Like You? And You and you and you??

Regarding the story of the "terrorism suspect" with the Birmingham airport connection...the headline, at least in the al.com story, is "suspect kept low profile".

Uh, you mean like all people who don't break the law?

This guy isn't even charged with a crime at this point, much less convicted, but he "kept a low profile"!!!!!

Liberals, United Behind Iggy?

I think not.

Liberals united? Behind a leader? Especially Ignatieff?

Liberals? Oh, I don't think so, David.

The species "Liberal" are naturally backstabbing, infighting, and are constantly engaged in subtle-but-devastating internecine warfare.

There's folks who seek to betray Iggy, to push him aside so they can be the king of the puffin poop hill.

Just look at Boob Ray, a onetime Iggy bum bud and former (disastrous) communist tyrant of Ontario who's always practicing running up imaginary hills...

And don't fuggeddabout the Heir to the PET Hill, Little Justin Turdeau...

Who wants a Prime Minister, Ignatieff, a man who willingly whored his mind and principles for the sake of fooling other Liberals into trusting him and believing in him? Don't they realize that he'll betray them if in power? Do they REALLY... believe he's changed his spots for real? Do they REALLY believe he's a communist and disarmist?

Don't they know of his background? His real philosophies?

I mean, the guy's an infamous proponent of torture, for just one thing so despised by Liberals...

There's obviously a clever deceptive ploy Iggy's been engaged in to fool Liberals.

Or... maybe he really did change his spots?

Problem is... there's no way of knowing.

And it's best we don't ever find out.

Send this poopy old bird directly back to Harvard or the BBC or wherever else is his natural habitat.

Old Time Religion

I worked and lived in Asbury Park, New Jersey*, for a while in the 70's...D.J. and radio news mostly, and it was there that I became familiar with Ocean Grove, a Methodist founded community that in some respects still reflects the 1860's when it started.

Memory tells me they closed off the streets with chains on Sundays...though I'm not sure that's true today.

Nonetheless, my friend Helen up Jersey way has sent me an article about the tent camp that springs up there each Summer...and here it is! My friend David, who still lives part of the year up that way, raves about the huge pipe organ in the auditorium and the concerts he has attended there. Helen heard Johnny Mathis sing there recently!

Anyway, just a little travelogue through my past.

[*And yes, The Boss's Mom called me to request I play his songs on the Saturday night show I did. And I would. True story! I'll bet some of  Bruce's songs were influenced by the presence of Ocean Grove!]

Is the Tea Party Canada-bound?

Is the Tea Party Canada-bound?

Canadian talk show host Andrew Lawton wants to make it happen.

Interview with SUN News.

Mark my words... it's gonna happen!

Oh, by the way, here's Andrew.  In addition to being a big guy on the Canadian political scene, he's schmoozed with Yankees, too.  Look... he's the gosh-darn lucky guy who's got his paws all over Ann Coulter...

Oh, and there he is, also, with Newt Gingrich...

And with American patriot Jon Voight...

This guy, Andrew Lawton, he's going places.  One of the Canadians to keep an eye on...

Brouhaha over census farcical

Brouhaha over census farcical

Much ado about nothing....
On Aug. 11, the federal government announced its intention to, in Industry Minister Tony Clements' words, "introduce legislation this fall to remove threats of jail time for persons refusing to fill out the (2011) census and all mandatory surveys administered by the federal government."
This seemed pretty innocuous and something I personally applauded. I don't know about you, but threats aren't the greatest way to get me to do something.
But, since then, there have been more than 8,000 news stories on the census -- way more articles and commentaries than on our health-care system (just more than 1,000) and only a smidgen fewer than articles and commentaries on the economy. Come on, people, where are your priorities?
(...)
When the head of one of our human rights commissions (in this case, Barbara Hall of the Ontario commission) comes out in support of the census, I have a natural tendency to run for the hills. I never really thought of the census or the controversy surrounding it until Hall said she supported it. For those familiar with Hall's tendency to favour limits on personal freedom in the name of personal rights, it should surprise no one that coercion would be fine with her.
Hmm. Apparently a liberal-fascism/tyranny component to the hysteria, hyperbole, gross unhingedness, etc., etc...

The Left is up in arms over the decriminalization of the right to choose to decline to respond to intrusive, non-necessary questions asked by the state.

Fascinating.

The question:

Has the Left been abusing, manipulating, spinning, distorting, etc..., "statistics"... to falsely justify/promote its extremist agenda?

Why does the Left prefer to depend on statistics... rather than on common sense, intelligence, and observable, empirical reality?

Hmm...  Yup, food for thought...

MMMM #108: Managing Execution Coverage - Public Editor

It was reported last week that China is reducing the number of non-violent economic crimes (68) that are punishable by execution in that country. The stories almost uniformly reported that China executes more people than any other country.

But the stories neglected to point out that there are more Chinese in the world than any other country. There are other countries that execute more people per-capita. Almost every statistic about China is a superlative because of its size.

The traditional Chinese execution method has been firing squad (or, mostly, a single bullet to the head). Now, high tech "execution vans" roam the country to conduct executions by lethal injection. In the shooting days, families of the condemned were charged for the bullet.

I don't know of they are sent a bill for the chemical cocktail.

There was a story in Saturday's NY Times about Japan's seven execution chambers, which were opened to the Japanese media for the first time ever last week. Foreign media was excluded, as if that was somehow going to prevent the rest of the world from finding out the details!

Japan executes by hanging, and like virtually all countries, has developed a detailed, somewhat fetishistic procedure to be followed.

Some governments have yet to come to their senses about the Internet age. Blocking the media only serves to make 'em angry, and that can result in even more negative coverage than otherwise. That's not fair, but it happens.

Alabama is in the top ten for per-capital executions among U.S. States, though Texas easily wins the raw numbers prize (437 since the death penalty was reauthorized by the courts. Alabama has executed just 41 in the same time period. That's a per-capita rate of  0.179 for Texas and 0.088 for Alabama.)

Nonetheless, the Montgomery-based Equal Justice Initiative organization places Alabama at the per-capita top, and awards the state a couple of other distinctions as well:

Alabama is the only state in the country that allows elected state court judges to override jury verdicts of life imprisonment and impose death sentences without strict limiting standards. About 23% of the people on Alabama's death row received a life verdict that was overridden by a trial judge.
Alabama is also the only state in the country without a state-funded program to provide legal assistance to death row prisoners. Over half of the people currently under sentence of death in Alabama were represented at trial by appointed counsel whose compensation for trial preparation was capped by law at just $1000.

About the biggest change of heart over execution in Alabama in recent years was The Birmingham News--just about the state's most conservative newspaper-- assuming an anti-capital punishment editorial stance after more than a century of support for executions. As recently as last January, they were editorially calling for a moratorium.

And theirs was a conservatve agrument: we can't be truly pro-life and support execution at the same time.

[PLUS: On Sunday the NY Times new "Public Editor"...Arthur S. Brisbane...wrote his first column. He pledges to be a fair representative of Times' readers, at a time when those readers have a powerful new arsenal of weapons to do journalist battle with the much larger but less agile newspaper. That's a tough job, and I wish him well. I've always though a TV News operation could go a long way toward sustaining credibility by doing the same, perhaps a retired journalist from another market who could be brought in periodically to comment on the work being done by the station.]

Visit Zoo Atlantassssssssss

No thanks, think I'll stay right here in Montgomery.

A venomous (like there's another kind?) rattlesnake "escaped" at the Zoo in Atlanta but they think it's still in the building.

It's a tiger rattlesnake and here's what they look like:

I certainly hope they're better at keeping the real tigers contained.
The Zoo Atlanta people say you should call them and not try to capture it yourself should you spot the two-foot long viper.
     No danger, sir, no danger.
And what do you think of WSB-TV's story, which includes the information that the two-foot snake is about the length of a cheerleading baton. Now that's helpful! Two feet wasn't nearly descriptive enough...If I'm going in for an ID, I'll use the baton to measure it first, and then use it to sent the snake to wherever snakes go when they are beaten to a bloody pulp.

One Name Wonders

It's not just for entertainers anymore...move over Madonna, Cher, (Lady) Gaga, Prince etc...I came across this reference in a serious story this morning about a volcano in Indonesia that has erupted for the first time in 400 years.

Government volcanologist Surono, who uses only one name, said Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra province started rumbling a few days ago and the minor morning eruption had mostly stopped.

We best hope this doesn't become a trend. Those of us who like to research family history will never find ancestors again!

A Strange OTR this afternoon...

...strange as in Todd Strange, Montgomery's Mayor, that is. We discuss a variety of subjects of interest to Montgomery residents....economic development... like trying to do something with the vacant Montgomery Mall, the Federal stimulus money that's saved many a city and state, even though Alabama's entire Congressional Delegation has voted against spending the money, and the Mayor's plan to build combined police and fire stations.

Watch On The Record this afternoon at 5:30, just before 60-Minutes, on CBS-8 in Montgomery.

Beck

The Montgomery-based Southern Poverty Law Center is quoted by NY Times columnist Bob Herbert today regarding the great rally in D.C. by "talk" host Glen Beck:

"The Southern Poverty Law Center tells us that in a twist on the civil rights movement, Beck said on the air that he 'wouldn’t be surprised if in our lifetime dogs and fire hoses are released or opened on us. I wouldn’t be surprised if a few of us get a billy club to the head. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of us go to jail — just like Martin Luther King did — on trumped-up charges. Tough times are coming.'

He makes you want to take a shower."

What does Beck really believe? Hard to say. Between the tears and the jeers, he seems to be mostly rallying people to the cause of Glen Beck. Comparing himself to Dr. King? Really? Does anyone truly buy that?

BBC Exonerates Israel In Flotilla Incident

BBC Exonerates Israel

Israel did no wrong. It's blatantly obvious. Weird how the BBC took so long to realize that!

Anyone who, given the irrefutable fact of Israel's total innocence, continues to blame Israel for the incident... is an anti-Semite.  Oh, yes!  Such people will be cursed for their bigotry and intolerance.

Gallup: Muslims rate Obama highest

Gallup: Muslims rate Obama highest

Well, he's been working hardest on becoming liked by that particular group.

No wonder they love him.

Everyone else (except Democrats)- not very much.  No wonder.  He's been working even harder to make them dislike him and want him out of office.

Media Bias: You Do the Math

Obama, Democrats got 88 percent of 2008 contributions by TV network execs, writers, reporters

Senior executives, on-air personalities, producers, reporters, editors, writers and other self-identifying employees of ABC, CBS and NBC contributed more than $1 million to Democratic candidates and campaign committees in 2008, according to an analysis by The Examiner of data compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics.

The Democratic total of $1,020,816 was given by 1,160 employees of the three major broadcast television networks, with an average contribution of $880.

By contrast, only 193 of the employees contributed to Republican candidates and campaign committees, for a total of $142,863. The average Republican contribution was $744.

No bias? Yeah, right.

See?  Another reason why I don't trust the Liberal Media...

The last refuge of a liberal

Charles Krauthammer - The last refuge of a liberal

When liberals can't win on an issue by honestly, logically, rationally debating the merits of their position and the demerits of the other side's position, then liberals, loathe to EVER concede that they're wrong or don't know what they're talking about, will start playing dirty, much like immature little children...

Been a while since we've been able to say it, but

Thank God for Mississippi!

Here's the story.

Terrorists Targeted Parliament Hill

Story here.

OTTAWA — The men charged with being part of a homegrown terrorist cell were allegedly plotting to bomb Parliament Hill and used Ottawa Public Library computers to communicate over the Internet.

(...)

Michel Juneau-Katsuya, a former CSIS agent and expert on terrorists, said his sources told him one of the locations the men allegedly wanted to target was Parliament Hill. He said they want to hit "powerful places" that would strike terror in the hearts of Canadians.

Alleged ringleader Hiva Mohammad Alizadeh was about to leave the country, which is part of the reason police made the arrests Wednesday after a year-long investigation.

(...)

Police referred to co-conspirators in Canada and abroad. The fourth person arrested was not one of the three whose names have been released -- James Lara, Rizgar Alizadeh and Zakaria Mamosta. QMI Agency has learned they are not in the country.

Nothing to see here.  Move along, folks.  And the Russians don't have ANY desire to take our Far Northern resources, either (don't listen to their own words about claiming the North).  The intercontinental bomber approaches?  Oh, that's nothing.  They do it all the time.  (Funny, but why bombers?  Why not unarmed civilian/scientific planes instead?)

As the Left, a la discredited Chamberlainian "Peace In Our Time" schtick, wants us to assume that Russia, like Nazi Germany, is "peaceful", they also want us to assume that there was no terror plot, no terrorists, and that the arrestees are just being arrested 'cause they're Muslims, Arabs, etc.  Beware of the Leftist spin.  It sounds so mainstream and authorative, but if you think for yourself, you realize they're lying.

Canadian Death Panel Condemns Christian Pastor To Death

BREAKING NEWS:  World Net Daily, Canadian Sentinel get results!

Hospital relents, provides life-giving food, water to wrongly-condemned-to-death Christian Pastor

But the pressure must remain on, because the Death Panel could again make an evil, and wrong, decision...

Story here.

They KNOW he has a chance.  They SEE him coming back.

But the DEATH PANEL (this is in CANADA under socialized medicine) has refused him the chance to live.  They won't give him enough time to come back.

He is NOT DYING.  He is NOT BRAIN DEAD.

They don't care.  They WANT him dead.  He's an easy victim, and they selected him...  Sort of like so:

Who's next, Stephen Hawking?  Oh, wait... they can't just take away his means of communication.  Hmm.  Did they explore means of communication for the Pastor before deeming him unable to communicate, unable to ask for help, therefore unworthy of a chance?  They just want to get rid of him.
The Sri Lankan Mayandy, who arrived in Canada 10 years ago to pastor a small church, complained of chest pain and was hospitalized after collapsing with a heart attack May 29.

He was revived successfully, although the apparent brain damage from the attack left him in a coma for a time. He was placed in intensive care where he regained consciousness. An eyewitness has reported he has regained movement in his arms and legs and that he recognizes the family he is living with.

According to Bernard Stephenson, another local pastor and friend who visits Mayandy daily, the injured man can speak some words.

But staff with Brampton Civic Hospital, which is part of the William Osler Health Center, disagree. According to Stephenson, doctors asserted all along that there was no hope of recovery.
Asserted all along... no hope.  This is "judgement"-a-priori.  They apparently planned to terminate all along, and were hoping to have some excuse.

But their excuse is INVALID.  Just because some doctors say something is so, doesn't mean that they're right, doesn't meant that they're not just like... Josef Mengele...

All along.  Since the beginning.  Regardless of the man's evident progress.

They won't even give him a chance.

They're killing him.  Because they don't want him to live.  Period.

This is what happens when it's all up to the state.  If they don't want people to live, then they'll find any excuse, either valid or invalid, not to.

Josef Mengele was a "doctor", too.
They called him the "Angel of Death".
But, like the doctors in this case, he was no angel at all.

America is next.

From Pogue's Lips to the Tech God's Ears

David Pogue in The Times writes the semi-obituary of cell phone companies in a column today.

Now...If only he can make the same arrangement for the endless "bundling" that makes cable and a fast net connection an offer you can't refuse (and one that costs a bundle!).

And by the way, Google is now also offering real-time searching. Put in a name or a phrase, and as new items are found, they appear at the top of your list of found links. Pretty interesting if you want an instant take on what a sampling of folks are writing about a given person or topic.

Hard-Left Ground Zero Mosque Supporter Hatefully Abuses Holocaust Survivor

The hate isn't coming from the side of those who oppose the Islamic Killing Field Mosque project.

It's coming from those who favor it!

Sometimes it's nuanced.

Sometimes it's blatant.

The pro-Cordoba-II hateful-extremist would've looked perfectly natural in a Schutzstaffel uniform.

Imam Rauf would look perfectly natural wearing an eagle-n-swastika emblazoned fez and one of those Islamic-Nazi SS uniforms.  Or perhaps just dressed like Hitler's Islamic comrade.

Isn't it eerie how Imam Faisal Rauf bears a striking resemblance to Hitler's Islamic comrade & uncle to Yasser Arafat, Haj Amin al-Husseini?

I bet al-Husseini would've built another Cordoba at Auschwitz, if the Nazis had won, to symbolize another Islamic conquest.  After all, the Muslim Nazi himself designed the Auschwitz blueprints.

Honest Services Prosecutions

Another prosecution under the now-weakened law has been dropped, reports the Times this morning. Now...the question of when (or if) this will touch the Don Siegelman case here in Alabama?

Unlike the first case cited in the story, a prosecution dropped in Kansas, the same U.S. Attorney is in power here, and I would imagine she is less likely to suddenly be swayed to free the former Governor.

'Critics' Don't Want Canada To Have National Defence

That's what the headlines would say if the Liberal-Media Complex was honest.

But, alas, they are NOT.

Everything the "critics" say has the effect of militating against modern, progressive defensive military ability.

"Ottawa moving by stealth".  Ah, another Hard-Left, non-serious, attack-talking point picked up by the Leftist Media.

The Neo-Communist Coalition in Parliament wants to keep Canada from having air superiority to defend her sovereignty.

"Don't vorry.  Ve vill not attack you."

The Liberals (Comrade Mikhail Ignatiov), the NDP (Comrade Jackov Laytonsky) and the Separatists (Herr Gilmut Duceppels) want Canada to just let her guard down to the MiGs, Sukhois, Tupolevs and Chengdus of the Axis, when the Axis decides to attack and invade.  Oh, wait... the Hard "Peace in our time" Left says that's never going to happen, 'cause, hey, they talked to the Axis leadership and, hey, they were "nice" and actually conduct business with us, so there can't be any hidden agenda on their part... right?  See?  Piece of paper is proof!  Peace in our time!

See?  I have here a piece of paper that proves that the Axis will not attack us!
Peace in our time!  We therefore don't need no stinkin' military!"

But soon thereafter...
Blitzkreig!

Sheesh!  Fofecksake!  Chamberlain was such a dupe!

And here's Churchill:
"What'd I tell you fools?  See?  I told y'all!"

I'm sorry, but the Peacenik-Disarmists have NOT made any case.  They're demanding a case be made that actually is made by the available facts, and by common sense.

What alternatives are there, that match the requirements, including stealth?  None!

Tender?  These people don't understand the nature of the situation.  We just can't tender... do these knobs understand anything about modern fighter planes and how long it takes to design, develop, test and eventually produce a modern warplane?  It takes many, many, MANY YEARS!

Here, we already have a plane almost ready for production.  It's the one chosen.

Move on, Leftists.  The decision is made.  Live with it.

Your propaganda campaign can and will be used against you to call you traitors!

Bring it on.  People who have no case to make, yet demand others make the case, well, that's weak, weak, weak.

They're going against common sense.  They're cranks.  Lunatics.  Extremists.  Fringe elementists.  They're Useful-Idiot puppets of the Axis and its covert influencers.

No doubt those who oppose real national security for Canada are being covertly influenced by the Axis's agents.  The CSIS was right.

Let them carr on with the Big Lies Campaign against Canadian Defence Capability.

They will only defeat themselves in so doing.  They think they've got a winning issue.  They're dead wrong.

Tools.  Fools.  Useful Idiots.

REAL Cops: Get Rid of Gun Registry!

Candice Hoeppner, Conservative MP, tells us like it is

The fat-cat politician-"police"-chiefs in the fancy, donut-n-coffee-serviced offices are just running the propaganda campaign for their Hard-Left masters the Hard-Left mayors and premiers who give them the orders to give to the REAL cops on the actual streets dealing with the actual scumbaggers out there.

The REAL cops have spoken out.

Who are we going to believe, politicians in uniform with guns, or REAL beat cops who KNOW how things really are?
Edmonton police officer Randy Kuntz’s national survey of Canadian police officers revealed that 92 percent of police officers in Canada want Members of Parliament to vote in favour of scrapping the long-gun registry. 2,631 officers responded to the survey in a police magazine asking officers whether they supported the registry as a useful working tool. 2,410 officers responded that the registry is a useless crime fighting tool that did not assist them in the performance of their duties.

"Canadian Police Association President Charles Momy appeared at committee this spring and referred to a survey demonstrating police support for the long-gun registry – a survey that he admitted involved just 400 officers," Hoeppner commented. "This new survey involved over 2600 officers and strongly contradicts Mr. Momy’s position. It seems obvious that a survey sample of 2600 is far more reliable than a survey of 400."

Hoeppner commented that both the CACP’s and CPA’s defense of the long-gun registry is based on the notion that police officers use it and want it, while Kuntz’s survey shows that simply isn’t true.

"Front-line officers – the constables and sergeants in the field - are throwing their support behind Bill C-391, while individuals like Mr. Momy and Chief Blair continue to defend a useless and unreliable gun database," Hoeppner continued. "It begs the question: ‘Exactly who are they speaking for?’"
Yup.  Who are the politicians-masquerading-as-law-enforcers REALLY speaking for?

Clearly not the REAL cops.  So, then, whom?

Wayne "Knob" Easter Pulls Another Prop Stunt

Remember the guy who showed us his knob?
Liberal dude Wayne Easter?
He's baaaack.

This time showing off his piggies, with a little help from a comrade.

Oh, yeah... he's a real serious dude.
Knobs.  Piggies.  What next to get attention?  Scrotal inflation?

Liberals hypocritically blast what they call 'startling' Tory patronage

Ah.  So.  One-in-five folks appointed to stuff by the Conservative government happens to like the Conservatives.  Eh?  That's all, just one out of every five?  That's hardly impressive at all.

If anything, I'd say they need to appoint MORE Conservatives.  To make the civil service representative!

After all, lots more than just one in five Canadians like the Conservatives, so what are the "representativeness"-obsessed Liberals complaining about?

They say that we MUST have "representativeness" in the public service, but don't call for it for Conservatives?  Oh, my!  See, folks?  Liberals discriminate!

What a waste of the reporters' time!  Calling a press conference to show off some stupid statues of pigs, and to declare that, out of every five appointees, just one happens to be a Conservative?  Well, I wonder how many of them are Liberals, then!

Teachin'

In a case of the snake swallowing its tail, I'll be using a textbook titled "Broadcast News" when I begin teaching a Broadcast Writing class tonight at Trenholm Tech. That's because the author interviewed me about radio news when the book first came out in the early1980's.

There have been lots of changes in the Media since then, but my three pages of quotes have survived.

You traffic jam isn't nearly so bad.....

Consider one in China that has lasted nine days! Heads up: the CNN video report at the end of that link is in Chinese (though the print story in English)...and maybe that's what's causing the jam... because all of the road signs are in Chinese too. ("This is Bejing! We speak English here!" to misquote a former Alabama candidate for Governor.
And you thought those miners were in for a tough time waiting till December for a rescue. At least they won't run out of gas.
Imagine nine days on Highway 280 or I-85. In a  Hummer. With kids in the back seat.

This Is CNN: ‘Obama Was Born a Muslim’ - Big Journalism

This Is CNN: ‘Obama Was Born a Muslim’ - Big Journalism

Actually, it's TRUE.

And he never said he apostated. You never hear even Radical Islamists say he's an apostate. That's quite interesting.

The "Christian" "church" he attended for twenty years, pastored by the terrible, racist, Jew-hating, America-hating Jeremy Wright? It's more like a quasi-mosque.

When will Obama come clean as to what he really is?

One day he suggests he's "Christian". The next day he makes a big stink about being a Muslim.

It all depends on the audience.

What is he, really?

Will the real Barack Hussein Barry Soetoro Obama please stand up?

Canada’s big crime problem

Canada’s big crime problem: Goldstein

Unreported Incidents, Stubbornly High Crime Rate Genuine Cause For Concern: Goldstein

Substantiating Minister Day's statements re the need for incarcerative facilities to get dangerous people off the streets.

And shooting down the Hug-a-Thug Crowd's Christianophobia-dripping (vis-a-vis Mr. Day, that is) propaganda.

You know... When people don't believe in the (Liberal-softened) justice system, they won't report crimes anymore. So, ironically, beefing up the justice system will actually lead to more crime being reported, and to more criminals rightly being put behind bars.

It's fascinating how Leftists don't seem to think that it's a big deal that crime is staggeringly, stubbornly higher than it was in the early Sixties, when the Big Leftist Social-Reengineering Project began with the Pearson-Trudeau-Chretien-Martin Liberals, which the Ignatieff Liberals want to continue with a more-zealous-than-ever vengeance.

The Left is STUPID.  They don't understand the real world at all.  They make smart, sane people shake their heads grimly.

An excellent piece by Lorrie Goldstein.

Sparks Turn

Democratic nominee for Governor Ron Sparks, roundly criticised by the man he beat in the June Primary Election, is responding with an Opp-Ed of his own in this morning's Montgomery Advertiser.

Sparks is mild in his criticism of Artur Davis, but still says Davis never called him after the Primary to say, well, to say anything.

So Sparks says he called and left a message for Davis. A still unanswered message. Unless you consider last week's Op-Ed (see earlier posting) the response.

It's SO hot......

The Weather Service and Climate Prediction folks have some good news for those of us who have been sweating through this Summer of 2010. Cooler temps are finally on the horizon....over the next three months. Of course it's not hard to predict that it will be cooler in late November than it is now in late August.
And by the way, though there weren't many individual day high temperature records, it really has been hotter than usual, especially in Birmingham, where a number of records were broken. Go here for the numbers!. The map below shows September - November highs.

Plant CSI Needed!

These pictures show a half dozen very tall plants weeds that have grown in a large pot on my deck this year.

I have no idea what they are.

The plants weeds may have been volunteered by passing birds, or by passing black bears, for all I know.

The same container had a variety of flowering plants in it the last two years, as shown in the other photo, so I figured that's what the plants weeds were. But so far no flowers, and now they're developing seedheads.

Any ideas what they are? Anyone? Do i grab the roundup?

Left-Winger Confirms Obama Corruption Scandal

(...)used taxpayer dollars to finance “a sophisticated propaganda and lobbying campaign” made up of “inappropriate and sometimes unlawful public relations and propaganda initiatives.” Often, this involves “covert propaganda,” in which officials ask others to repeat White House talking points without mentioning their connection to the president.

Oh, my!

This is JUICY!

Look who unda da bus now!

A.D. Redux

The Washington Post has a story about Artur Davis's sour grapes opinion piece ("he expected to be called a sore looser", they write) in last Sunday's Birmingham News, if you want to see how outside media paints it.

The only thing new I read is the fact that Mr. Davis will move to Northern Virginia once his term ends in January and become a "top flight criminal defense attorney". And Washington always needs another one of those, no?

Imam Rauf, the Ground Zero Mosque, and National Security

Imam Rauf, the Ground Zero Mosque, and National Security

It would be a bad idea to allow an asset controlled by American adversaries to be built anywhere in the United States.

What good are our property, and other, rights... after The Enemy has one day taken over our nation and taken them away from us?

If we don't remain vigilant re clear and present dangers threatening our national security from within as well as from without, then we're screwed.

Because the nature of warfare has been changed... by The Enemy.

In fact, our enemies are currently actually waging war against us without us noticing!

This is the insidious nature of it all, taking advantage of our rights and freedoms to take over our nation over the long run, perhaps by taking over the government via an election won by ensuring an electoral population critical mass to guarantee an enemy-friendly political party a victory.

Of course, there could very well be violent force to overthrow our adminstration. And the means whereby this will happen will actually be somewhat different from those described by History. New techniques and technologies of destruction may well be used for the first time as warfare. They may be combined with already-used weapons, too.

Fools and Useful Idiots want us to pretend this isn't happening.  But those of us who've been paying attention know that is and has been for decades.

Deputies Arrest Prop 8 Protesters

Deputies Arrest Prop 8 Protesters

These folks, they don't care about democracy, rule of law, the Constitution... They'll stop at nothing to get what they want.

There's something disturbing about people who think they can have anything they want, no matter what.

And potentially dangerous.  Oh, yes, there's already been threats of violence, actual violence, homicidal declarations-of-intent, racial slurs...  All covered up by the Old Media.

Civil, law-abiding people don't act like this.

The Mosque

I've come full circle on the issue of the Mosque in Manhattan. My original post was angry and, frankly, unfair. Since then, I've decided that blocking the mosque would become the perfect example the next the next time a religion that is out-of-favor wants to built its house of worship.

Here's what former Birmingham News cartoonist Scot Stantis drew about it yesterday in The Chicago Tribune, and it perfectly expresses where I am now.

But if we are going to block it, how many feet away from ground zero is considered sacred ground? Would five blocks be OK? Four? Supposing it's a reformed mosque?
There are people who believe mormons are a dangerous cult...would they be allowed in your neighborhood? There's no shortage of anti-catholic rhetoric...should a parish be kept away?
Yet I can't leave this posting without another thought: Are Muslims known for their own openness to other faiths? Would they welcome a synagogue or a gay church or a white supremicist church next door to their new Mosque, if it is built?

Where at least SOME of the oil has gone...

...DEEP and long. Story on al.com...

And that backs up scientists who said they found the oil where they least expected it...way deep in underwater trenches.

This Sunday's "On The Record" on CBS-8 features an Environmental Historian (betcha didn't know there was such a thing!) from Troy University.

I talk with her about the spill (of course), the coal ash in Perry County, the concept of environmental racism, and the upcoming decision by the EPA about whether to change the level of Ozone allowed in the Montgomery/River Region air.
If they decided to reduce the allowable amount, it could stifle industrial development in the area. The guest is Dr. Elizabeth Blum, Ph.D.

Watch it live or TiVo it: "On The Record", Sunday at 5:30, just before 60-Minutes on CBS-8 in Montgomery.

Ann Coulter slams Farah as 'swine,' publicity whore

For the record, I agree with Joseph Farah of World Net Daily.

Ann Coulter has recently been concerning me with her closed-minded ignorance as to the plainly visible facts surrounding Obama's apparent ineligibility under the Constitution to be President. Calling people "cranks" for daring to even ask for proof, well, it surprised me.

Now she's calling someone a "whore" and "swine" for sticking to his principles.

Funny thing, though, I betcha the Left and Democratic-Media Complex will side with Ann, if only out of cynical convenience.

If Ms. Coulter believes that SHE IS the conservative community, well, I'm afraid she's got a sobering lesson to learn.

Besides, whereas Ann was dropped as a speaker at the WND gathering, she'll still be writing as a columnist for the organization, so she ought to take that into consideration, so she will understand that she, as a person, has NOT been abandoned. It's just a matter of principle, something she's forgotten about lately.

Mr. Farah explains the principle behind the cancellation of Ann's engagement at the event:
"There's a different standard for columnists and speakers at our conference," Farah explained. "We boast the broadest ideological forum of commentators in any news or opinion publication or website anywhere on the planet – and we will continue to do that. We think people should hear all points of view discussed openly and honestly."
He said the issue was that the conference is a serious event "designed to provide some real leadership for those who are serious about changing the direction of this country. There is simply no room there for compromisers or for people who accept money from those determined to destroy the moral fabric required for self-governance and liberty."
There's ALREADY enough "compromise" going on in America and the world. The thing here is that there also needs to be discipline in seriously coming up with ideas and leadership to bring common sense back to America. Unfortunately, at the present time, Ann Coulter seems to be a bit addicted to adulation and publicity, and seems to have forgotten about common sense principles and discipline.

Good Guys Winning Ground Zero Battle

Efforts to move planned New York mosque further from Ground Zero make progress

EDITORIAL: Barack Obama, war criminal - Washington Times

EDITORIAL: Barack Obama, war criminal - Washington Times

The Justice Department's dogged quest to root out alleged war criminals raises the question of when it will begin investigating the Obama administration. Mr. Obama's increasingly public dirty little secret is that he has widened the use of covert actions against terrorists that were pioneered by his predecessor, President George W. Bush. Mr. Obama's secret war is disturbing mainly to his left-wing base, whose members apparently believed the sanctimonious rhetoric of the early days of the administration, when it seemed that war-crimes show trials against members of the Bush national security team were imminent.

Ok, NOW...

I'm going to use an image, but before I do it, I'll precede it with these leftist-generated images re Bush and Harper, so that no dummy idiot leftist assholes can call me the "r" word then...

NOW, will Noam Fullashit Chomsky please stand up and tell us AGAIN about the whole "Manufacturing Consent" thing?

The Chomster is strangely silent now that it's a Leftist waging the wars.

Noam Chomsky's uncharacteristic silence speaks volumes...

Speak up, Noam!
WE CAN'T HEAR YOU ANYMORE!
