Two Missing Boys Safe: Runaways

Two Missing Colorado Boys Found in Phoenix

PHOTO: Christopher Ihinger and Danny Eberly

Two boys missing in western Colorado since Sunday have been found safe in Phoenix, according to authorities there.
The boys, 12-year-old Christopher Ihinger and 14-year-old Danny Eberly, both of Telluride, disappeared while on an outing with Christopher's dad, Aaron, and his hiking partner, according to the San Miguel County Sheriff's Office.
The boys are now in custody, unharmed, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
"The boys admitted to running away, to taking the truck and driving it to Phoenix," read a statement issued by the San Miguel County Sheriff's Office. "They were apprehended by the Phoenix Police Department after being suspected of committing some crimes."
Authorities in western Colorado spent the past three days combing broad swaths of wilderness near Telluride in search of the two boys.

Aaron Ihinger told police he last saw them Sunday morning, when he left the boys near a boat ramp in the Big Gypsum Valley of San Miguel County to go rock climbing. When he returned a few hours later, both of the boys were gone.
Lori Eberly said her son, Danny, had recently gotten in trouble for stealing a car over the summer, but she insisted he had not run away. "He and his friend had taken a car joyriding and he crashed it," she said.
Eberly said there had been talk among students at Danny's Telluride middle school that he'd told friends he was afraid that he might have to serve jail time, and had a plan to leave town.
"He had no reason to be scared," Eberly told ABC News. "He wasn't going to jail. There was no possibility of jail. There was was probation, but he was doing really good. He was doing really good in school, he was getting into activities. He was trying really hard to change everything," she said.
Eberly said Danny had been living with his father in Flagstaff, Ariz., before coming to Telluride to live with her last January. She was upset that the apparent focus of the investigation had shifted to Danny's past .
"What's happening right now has nothing to do with what happened over the summer, and I know that," she said. "He's a loving kid, a good kid. He wants to fix what he's done in the past, so I just don't see him doing this."
Aaron Ihinger said his son, Christopher, became friends with Danny at school. Knowing of Danny's recent run-ins with the police, Ihinger said he invited Danny to join him and Christopher on Sunday.

Nancy Grace on Amanda Knox

Nancy Grace has weighed in on the Amanda Knox case.  It is interesting to note that Nancy Grace came to the same conclusion that analysis of Amanda Knox' statements indicate.

I was very disturbed, because I think it is a huge miscarriage of justice,” Grace said. “I believe that while Amanda Knox did not wield the knife herself, I think that she was there, with her boyfriend, and that he did the deed, and that she egged him on. That’s what I think happened.”

To this, the statements made by Amanda Knox (and email) agree.  Amanda Knox was guilty, in concert, of the murder.  Her legion of male love lorn supporters now rejoice, while Meredith's family's pain goes on. Supporters used everything from taunts and insults, to the linguistic gymnastics of hyperbole to plead against the verdict, and condemn anyone disagreeing with them.

In Knox’s final plea, she told an Italian appeals court that she was not present the evening her British roommate Meredith Kercher was sexually assaulted and brutally murdered in their shared apartment. Grace said she did not think Knox is telling the truth. “I believe her original statement to the police - that she was there in the home when her roommate was murdered was true,” Grace told Access Hollywood.
To this, Statement Analysis agrees.  The words that Knox initially used came from experiential memory; and the analysis that produced the results to show Casey Anthony a liar, was the same analysis that showed Amanda Knox's guilty participation in the murder.  A coerced confession shows deception.  Amanda Knox revealed participation in sexual homicide, in her language.

Social networks like Twitter and Facebook exploded with celebratory messages on Monday as the judge proclaimed Knox’s innocence, allowing the study abroad student to finally return home to Seattle, Washington after four years in an Italian prison.
Grace was not one of those supporters, saying that while she would love to believe Knox innocent, “I just happen to know the facts.” Grace was even harsher when asked if her show would compete with other networks to get the first Knox interview.
I’m not trying to get Amanda Knox’s first interview because… my show does not pay for interviews…Second, I don’t think she’s going to tell the truth anyway, so what’s the point?” Grace responded
Knox, like Casey Anthony, will now make millions off the blood of an innocent.  Statement Analysis was applied to both in the same principles and brought forth the same results.

Perhaps Casey Anthony and Amanda Knox can do cartwheels together, as they laugh all the way to the bank.

Can a reality TV show be far behind for both killers?

Statement Analysis of Baby Lisa's Parents' Plea

                  Are Baby Lisa's Parents Deceptive?

by Peter Hyatt

http://www.kmbc.com/video/29397870/detail.html

The parents of Lisa Irwin, 10 months, made a public appearance and gave a short statement.  The following is the text, with Statement Analysis in bold type.  Please note that in this public appearance, police first stated that they will not take any questions, and that parents stood next to each other.  Jeremy Irwin and Debra Bradley are the parents with Jeremy speaking first and last.  First is the statement in its entirety, followed by the analysis.

Question for Analysis:  Is Deception in the statements?

Jeremy Irwin:

"On Monday night or Tuesday morning, our daughter, Lisa, was taken from our home.
We just urge anyone who has any kind of information as to where she is, or who she's with or anything to, to please call the tips hotline or the police.  Anything, even the smallest bit of information to help lead to her return.  Anybody that might have her can drop her off at any place safe fire station  or hospital or church no questions asked just want to have our baby back

Debra Bradley:  we just want our baby back, please bring her home.    Our two other boys are waiting for her, please , just drop her off anywhere, we don't care, just somewhere safe where she can come home, please.

Jeremy Irwin:  we wanted to thank everyone who is out here, Kansas City police, FBI , search and rescue all the volunteers helping the investigation,
center for missing children with the we just ask you to keep her in your thoughts and prayers and help to bring her home.

Statement Analysis is in bold type, with underlining or color highlighting added for emphasis.  Analysis question is to determine if there is deception within these two short statements.

An important distinction should be made:  does the plea exist specifically for Lisa?

Jeremy Irwin:

"On Monday night or Tuesday morning, our daughter, Lisa, was taken from our home.

It should be noted that when a parent refers to "our" daughter (child) it is closely related to step parenting, meaning that the family may have step parents, foster children, or adopted children. The exception is when both biological parents are speaking together, in which case the shared pronoun (plural) should remain consistent as the parent speaks for the other.

It could be that there is another parent involved in caretaking, but either way, the plural was consistent, and the parents stood together.  I would not be surprised if we learned that not all 3 children are biologically Jeremy and Debra's.  It is not indicative of anything other than that it is the language commonly found when a step child, or step parent is involved.

Please note that "our daughter, Lisa" is considered an appropriate introduction, using possessive pronoun "our" with the child's name.

Please note that "Monday night or Tuesday morning" qualifies time frame.  Parents reported that they do not know if it was before or after 12:01AM Tuesday morning when she was taken.  The qualifier is justified.

Please note that the past tense verb is used, in "was taken".

We just urge anyone who has any kind of information as to where she is, or who she's with or anything to, to please call the tips hotline or the police.

Note that the addition of the word "just" (reduction) likely reflects a sense of growing frustration
Note that "anyone" is gender neutral and is consistent with "who" she's with;

Anything, even the smallest bit of information to help lead to her return.  Anybody that might have her can drop her off at any place safe fire station  or hospital or church no questions asked just want to have our baby back

"smallest":  This is an indication that at the time of this press conference, the father has been given no tips or indication that there is a trail of which to search; it matches the word "just" above.  This same theme is found in the words "at any place", and repeated "just"
Note the consistency in the word "anybody"

Debra Bradley:  we just want our baby back, please bring her home.    Our two other boys are waiting for her, please , just drop her off anywhere, we don't care, just somewhere safe where she can come home, please.

Please note the consistency in pronouns.  Pronouns are instinctive and the pronouns did not change from either parent, including when the mother interrupted the statement and spoke in the free editing process.

Jeremy Irwin:  we wanted to thank everyone who is out here, Kansas City police, FBI , search and rescue all the volunteers helping the investigation,
center for missing children with the we just ask you to keep her in your thoughts and prayers and help to bring her home

It is important to note that it appears that police did not want the parents to answer questions.  Since it appears that they have little to go on (language shows a growing desperation as they seek even the smallest bit of info)

They ask for specific help for "her" and not for themselves; "to bring her home" is noted as the results of thoughts and prayers.

There is no deception in either of these statements.  The parents are consistent in language and do not use any unnecessary qualifiers, appear to speak extemporaneously at times, and have no sensitivity indicators that they are withholding information.  They said what we expected to hear.

Police may have an indication that if the parents speak to answer questions, the person (s) holding baby Lisa may be offended and harm her.  If this is the case, or if there is any issue of step parenting, paternity, or an ex involved, police would be following up and would not want that person to feel offense by the parents.

When "no deception" is indicated, it speaks to this statement only.  Should other statements be provided, we will analyze them as well.

In some cases where parents end up implicated, it is possible for them to make a short statement that does not show deception, but if they speak over time, deception shows up.   If deception is indicated, repeatedly over time, it is safe to presume that the parents possess guilty knowledge, but as the sample of statement goes up, so does reliability.

If parents speak to the press regularly, without sensitivity indicators, it is in this pattern that we can see that they are truthful.

The initial analysis of Kaine Horman and Desiree Young, parents of missing 7 year old Kyron Horman showed a divorced couple in acute pain, yet they spoke without sensitivity indicators:  both were truthful.  In the step mother's short statements, deception was seen.

The topic of a missing child could not be any more "sensitive" yet innocent parents answer questions about the missing child without "sensitivity indicators"; specific ways of picking up deception.  Clint Dunn, father of missing 13 year old, Hailey Dunn, answered questions about his daughter's disappearance, as painful as it is, without sensitivity indicators of deception.

Desiree Young took the lead in keeping Kyron's name out there, and had plenty of things that she would have rather been private, yet her answers showed no sensitivity indicators of deception.

Our prayers are with baby Lisa, as well as the family.

Note that the parents sought for her return, so she could be safe.  They asked for help for her, and prayers for her; not for themselves.  As time goes on, they may ask for themselves, but the focus at this point is upon Lisa.  This is reflective of what we expect in a 911 call.  By seeking "anything" and event the smallest amount of information, they are speaking the opposite of the language of Lena Lunsford, mother of missing 3 year old, Aliayah, who said that she had searched "everywhere", leaving no place where Aliayah might be found.

Note the difference, as well, from the sample of Haleigh Cummings, who's step mother sought to stop the flow of information when she said, "and that's all I know", which is equal to saying, "so stop asking me questions" about Haleigh's disappearance.

A missing baby, without any indication of where she may be, or who took her, is our worst nightmare.

Two Boys, 12 and 14, Missing

2 Telluride boys disappear

Youths gone when dad, stepdad finish climb
Tuesday, October 4, 2011
San Miguel Sheriff’s Department deputies continued their ground and air search Tuesday for two missing boys and the white pickup they were last seen with Sunday.
Anyone with information about Christopher Ihinger, 12, and Danny Eberly, 14, both of Telluride, is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department at 970-728-1911.

The two boys last were seen Sunday on 20R Road, or Dolores River Road, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. near the boat ramp, according to Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Jennifer Dinsmore. She said several deputies are working on the case.
The boys are believed to be traveling in a white 2007 Ford F-150 with license plate number of 801-RBH. Dinsmore said the truck also had some body damage.

Christopher Ihinger is approximately 5 feet 4 inches, 130 pounds and has brown hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt and pants and a black-and-yellow cap.
Eberly is approximately 5 feet 5 inches, 100 pounds and has brown hair. He also was wearing a cap.
Montrose Police Chief Tom Chinn said an all-points bulletin was issued for the boys and the missing truck.
According to Dinsmore, Aaron Ihinger, Christopher’s father, and Eric Wright, Eberly’s stepfather, brought the boys on the day trip but left them with the truck near the boat ramp while the men went rock climbing early Sunday morning. When the adults returned around 4 p.m., the boys and the truck were gone.

The two men had to hitchhike to Norwood, where they notified authorities about the missing boys at approximately 7 p.m.

Attempts to reach Aaron Ihinger and other family members were not successful Tuesday afternoon.

Dinsmore said the Sheriff’s Department has been conducting ground and air searches for the boys and truck. She said Tuesday the department had no other details to release about the investigation.

Police Tight-Lipped on Aliayah Lunsford

The 911 call made by the mother of missing 3 year old shows deception.  Police have not named a suspect yet, as the mother has an attorney.  (see prior analysis)

No Named Suspects in Missing Girl Case

The criminal investigation of Aliayah Lunsford, 3, is still going strong 11 days after she was last seen.
Investigators said it could be a murder, an abduction or a concealment; however, they wouldn't name a suspect. There's supposedly a small list of persons of interest but investigators wouldn't release any names.
A lot of folks question parental involvement, but so far, investigators simply said they have been talking to the family and neighbors simply because they know Aliayah the best.
Both Aliayah's mother, Lena Lunsford, and stepfather, Ralph Lunsford, have a list of criminal charges in Gilmer, Lewis and Braxton counties.
Lena faced mainly worthless check, forgery and uttering charges over the years. She's also been charged with breaking and entering among other things.
Ralph was charged with multiple counts of domestic battery and assault. He spent time in the Moundsville Prison for burglary and conspiracy.
When asked if any family members are on the list of persons of interests, FBI officials wouldn't comment.
"I really cannot comment about anybody that we're speaking with. I don't want to give a number about how many people we've talked to. We really can't do that right now. Everybody that we've been able to talk to has been willing to talk to us," says FBI Special Agent Jeff Killeen.
Lena was the person to report her daughter missing. She said she checked on her at 6:30 a.m. last Saturday and when she went in about three hours later, she was gone from her bedroom.
The day after she was reported missing, Lena told 5 News that the family wants Aliayah home.

Search Continues for Missing 10 Month Old

Searching continues this morning for missing 10 month old Lisa Irwin.  Police report that they are operating the search without a single tip of what happened to the baby.  Where do police search?  It is more complicated than simply searching the local woods and water areas.

Reports are that both parents have been interviewed, with police reporting that they are cooperating and have indicated that they do not believe that the parents are involved.

Local media reported a homicide, but later said it was unrelated.

When police stated that the couple was cooperating, they did so without sensitivity or qualification; this is important.  Sometimes parents will announce that they are cooperating or working with police, and police remain silent, a signal of suspicion.  Here, plain statements indicate that at this point in the investigation, they are focusing on stranger abduction.

Stranger abduction is rare, but it happens.  Rarer even is the baby that is snatched from a home where a parent and other children are home, sleeping.  When this happens police look to see if both parents were together, and work the circle wider and wider, from immediate family to extended family, to friends, to associates and lastly to strangers.  Police search for a connection to the home.

Drugs connect trouble to a home.  If parents are into drugs, drug dealers have been known to exact vicious revenge.

Affairs complicate homes where police seek to learn if a love triangle, with bitterness and perhaps mental health issues arise.  Any raging jealousies among family or friends?  Anyone close to the family recently hospitalized for substance abuse, or mental health issues will be carefully looked at.

As the extended family is searched, the circle gets wider, where associates are looked at; are any owed money?  Are there tense relations?  Tense business deals?

By the time police get to the strangers, they look at:

Registered sex offenders,
Known but unregistered sex offenders;  Sexual deviants molest children this young and even those who neighbors suspect will find themselves interviewed.  The child pornography trail, with each and every branch that is in the area, is sought out for interview.  Where were you at...?, and so on.

They scan hospitals for any women who have had still borns, who may be unstable, and move on to
mothers who have lost custody of their children (particularly babies) to Child Protective Services.  They even seek out foster parents who have recently given back the children to the biological parents, as this can be traumatic depending upon how long the child (children) have been with them.

The Questionnaire is often used, as an amazing time saver, where each household in the neighborhood is given a questionnaire to fill out.  The scanning of such can be done in less than a minutes, and police can take 500 people to be interviewed and reduce the number, instantly, by 70%, as the Questionnaire is designed to clear the truthful.  The man hours saved is of great benefit and results equal that of the polygraph.

If the parents are cooperating with police as reported, the police will likely have them address the kidnapper in media, as innocent parents will put themselves into the hands of the experts and allow the experts to guide them in exactly what to say and do.  This is done, generally, after passing a polygraph; particularly after hours pass with no success in finding the baby.

Kidnapping for ransom, in the continental United States, has become even more rare with the advent of electronic communication:  how would kidnappers communicate ransom demands without being traced?

Lastly is the horror of the unknown; rare, and perhaps, the worst fears of all parents; the nightmare of horror movies.

We will update as information becomes available.  Many thanks to our readers who post updates and links.
