I really wanted to like this book. It was about a reclusive author who, at the end of her life, tells her 'tale' to a young person. It is a book about lovers of books, a booklady's dream, right?! It's a mystery which has all the makings of a great gothic novel, but it just didn't work for me. I kept trying to get swept up in it and then wondered if I wasn't too old for such stories. I'm still not sure that isn't the case, but I don't think so. I know that I still enjoy a good mystery, so it isn't that. I just think something is missing from Setterfield's book but couldn't put my finger on it. And it isn't worth a reread.
