Kienan Hebret's Father Speaks

3 year old Kienan Hebret was safely recovered.  Below is his father addressing media.

Please note that when a child is missing, everyone associated with the case will be nervous and on edge, including being interviewed or polygraphed.  This nervousness is not the same thing as "sensitivity indicators" in Statement Analysis.  When asked about a missing child, nerves are fried, but innocent parents will speak one way, and guilty parents will speak another.  Sensitivity indicators in analysis is not detection of nervousness.

Keinan's father speaks:

Note the constant use of the child's name;
Note "you know" shows acute awareness to the questions being asked;
Note the positive remarks regarding Keinan (Happy Meal reference)--no subtle disparaging of victim, nor blame;
Note absence of sensitivity indicators in spite of acute nervousness and fear;
Note that he does not insult the suspect while the suspect had his son----only "if"

He appears to be attempting to sound strong and confident; likely others relying on him for strength.

No deception.

The story ended well:

VANCOUVER, BC – With abducted 3-year-old Kienan Hebert returned home to his relieved family and safe, detectives have shifted their efforts to persuading the child’s abductor to turn himself in.

How Keinan was returned home the police can’t say. But they confirm that his parents found him safely returned to the family house after Elk Valley RCMP received a 9-1-1 call around 3:00 a.m. Sunday, informing them of the child’s whereabouts.

“To the person that returned Kienan safely to his family, I would like to say thank you,” said Keinan’s father Paul Herbert. “It was the right thing to do and I thank God that Kienan was returned unharmed.”

“Keinan was medically checked and found to be unharmed, in good spirits and happy to be reunited with his family,” said media spokesman Cpl Dan Moskaluk .

Now is the time for Hopley to turn himself in, said Moskaluk speaking directly to Kienan’s abductor.

“Thank you for bringing 3 year old Kienan Hebert home and re-uniting him with his family unharmed. Randall, if you are listening, you need to reach out to the police. Call us or turn yourself in to the police. We know this has been a difficult time for you and your mom is very worried about you. Your mom wants you to come in. Randall, we know you have a story to tell and we want you to reach out to the police. Everyone wants to know no other children are at risk.

Randall, please do the right thing and call us or turn yourself in to the police.”

The RCMP’s top priority was always the safe return of Kienan,” said Moskaluk. “The RCMP is shifting its focus from getting Kienan home safely to ensuring the public’s safety by finding Randall Hopley. For the public, we ask you to continue to be on the lookout for 46 year old Randall Peter Hopley. He is described as a white with brown hair and hazel eyes. He is 5’10’” and weighs 147 lbs.”

Moskaluk noted Hopely may have switched cars But the public should be on the lookout for a Brown 1987 Toyota Camry with a BC license plate 098 RAL.

If anyone has seen Randall Hopley or his vehicle, they are asked to call 9-1-1. We are also reminding you of the importance of establishing his movements and action, particularly over the past 6 days. If you have any information please call police.
